The Parents as Early Teachers (previously named as Parents as Teachers) is developed on the premise that parents are children’s first teachers and learning begins at home. We work with mothers from rural areas to create awareness on how they can support their child’s development and learning from a young age and work towards making their child ready for formal school.
As a part of the project, two types of digital content modules were developed to support mothers in their interactions with their child. The content modules for mothers includes topics on child development and parenting and the parent-child learning modules focus on skills in Math and Language (Marathi) to get preschool children ready for formal school (see Appendix of the report).
The Experience Document below captures how our knowledge of the realities of mothers and children in rural areas informed the process of developing digital content appropriate for them. ECE expert recommendations on creating digital content for preschool age children have also been included. The Experience Document could be beneficial for organizations and individuals working in the field of early childhood education and creating content contextually appropriate for parents and children in rural India.
